Computational Craft: Embracing Creative Play
Computation and crafting may seem worlds apart; computation is quick, virtual, and focused on abstraction while crafting is slow, tangible, and focused on physical materials.  However, these apparent differences lead to fascinating areas for design, especially around creative play.   Professor Sullivan is head of the StoryCraft Lab at Georgia Tech, and prior to that, she was a game developer and designer. She has worked on some really neat projects, from creating a digital game system controlled with a loom to using creative AI to build educational interactive experiences to analyzing games from a feminist perspective. In her talk on Thursday, she'll focus particularly on creative play through the combination of physical crafting and computation.
