CS Tea Talk: Ethan Struby, Assistant Professor of Economics
Macroeconomists are often called on for policy analysis and forecasting, but are criticized for using unrealistically stylized models. Over the past several decades, advances in computational speed have made more 'realistic' models feasible. This may or may not make the models better, and macroeconomists may or may not know what we're doing. This talk will focus on how macroeconomic barriers have been overcome by judicious application of advances in CS, with examples that touch on numerical optimization, Bayesian estimation, and the intersection of statistics and artificial intelligence. Join us in CMC 328 for tea, cookies, and conversation. We will then move to CMC 301 for our program.
