CS Tea Time

Come weekly to the "tea time" with CS faculty and students. This week we will have a panel of recent liberal arts grads now at Code 42.

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
4:00 – 5:00 pm / CMC 209

This week's CS tea time event will feature a panel of special guests from Code 42 (, a software company in the Twin Cities, talking about their experiences at the company, and their paths from their liberal arts educations to their current jobs.  All three of the panelists have Carleton connections, and they'll be happy to answer questions about Code 42 or about post-collegiate experiences more generally.

The panel (magically sorted simultaneously by chronology, first name, and last name):

-- Chris Gwinn (Carleton '98) has spent the last 15 years bouncing around the twin cities software development community. He is now a developer at Code42, where he works on client-side engine code. Chris lives in Minneapolis with your reference librarian and their kids.

-- Ethan Sommer (Carleton '03) spent a year as a software engineer for IBM before returning to Minnesota to run systems and networking at Gustavus Adolphus College for eight years. He is now a senior cloud engineer at Code 42, managing hundreds of servers hosting over 115PB of CrashPlan backups.

-- Millie Walsh (Smith '11) graduated with a degree in Computer Science and moved to Madrid for year to teach English in the public schools.  She moved back to Minnesota and in March of this year she started working for Code42 on the server-side development team.  Also, she is the daughter of a Carleton class of 1978 alum, who took one of the first Computer Science courses offered at Carleton!

In addition, Code 42 is also actively recruiting for both full-time employees and summer interns for 2014, so come with your questions, your appetites for cookies and tea, and your resume if you've got one.  Or just come to see what their lives in the professional world are like.
