STUDENT DEPARTMENTAL ADVISORS (SDAs) - 2017/18:

Student departmental advisers (SDAs) are seniors who serve as a resource for all current students, especially new students, who want to talk to a knowledgeable and experienced upper class student about courses and registration. They supplement the information and advice available through faculty advisers and published materials, and refer students to the proper office or department when needed.

Alyssa Neidhart

Hello! I am a senior Economics major from Paradise Valley, Arizona. Other than the two intros and the three core classes, I have taken a variety of economics courses, including Industrial Organizations, Game Theory and European Economic History. The summer after my sophomore year, I went on Carleton’s Economics in Cambridge program and loved learning about the Industrial Revolution and Britain’s contemporary economy. During my breaks, I have volunteered at a women’s shelter, interned at a nonprofit communications firm in Seattle, externed at PitchBook Data doing business intelligence (also in Seattle), and worked as a research assistant for Nathan Grawe, a Carleton Economics professor. I am more than happy to answer any questions you have about the major, classes, student organizations, study abroad, internships, externships or whatever else you can think of! You can always reach me at neidharta@carleton.edu.

Aaron Hockett

I am a senior Economics major from Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition to both introductory courses and all three core classes, I have taken classes such as Environmental Econ, Labor Econ, and Law & Econ. My Junior fall, I studied abroad in Montpellier, France with a University of Minnesota program. The last two summers, I interned for two non-profits: The George Kaiser Family Foundation and Tulsa Educare Inc. At Carleton, I host a KRLX radio talk show, captain an illustrious IM soccer team, and have the great pleasure of living with my dear friend and fellow SDA, Avinash

Moorthy. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about classes, studying abroad, internships, and anything else you can think of. Please feel free to reach out to me at hocketta@carleton.edu.

Avi Moorthy

Hello! My name is Avi and I am a senior Economics major from Toronto, Canada. At Carleton I have taken classes such as Law & Economics, Industrial Organizations and Labor Economics, in addition to the three core classes. This winter break I will be in Bangladesh as part of our department's Microeconomics of Development study-abroad program! My sophomore summer I interned at Cornerstone Research, an economic consulting firm. This past summer I did research at the U.S Treasury's Office of Economic Policy, and am hoping to work in a research capacity upon graduating. At Carleton, I work as the TA for Price Theory, and formerly served as a Prefect for Introductory Micro and Macro. Economics aside, I am the president of the Carleton Table Tennis Club, am involved with Club Tennis, and enjoy tossing a ball around with housemate and fellow SDA Aaron Hockett. I am happy to answer any questions about the major, classes, internships, career opportunities, and anything else you can think of. Please feel free to contact me at moorthya@carleton.edu.
