How Intercollegiate Sports Threatens Higher Education
Interested in critically examining the intersection of athletics, gender, race, and socio-economic status? Join Rick Eckstein, professor of sociology at Villanova University, Tuesday, April 18, 7-8:15pm in the library Athenaeum to learn about how women’s intercollegiate sports threatens higher education. In his new book How College Athletics are Hurting Girls’ Sports: the Pay-To-Play Pipeline, Eckstein critically examines the commodification, masculinization, and inequities in girls’ and women’s sports, as well as the unfortunate ironies of Title IX. Tea and homemade cookies will be provided. Sponsored by Educational Studies, History, Economics, American Studies and OILL.
