Michael David Cohen, Carleton History '02, is a historian of the United States with particular interests in the nineteenth century, education, and politics. He received his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. Since 2009, he has been assistant research professor of history and assistant editor of the Correspondence of James K. Polk at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. "Reconstructing the Campus: Higher Education and the American Civil War" is his first book.
