Careers Workshop with Anna Marie Trester

Fri, January 20, 2017 • 4:00pm - 5:00pm (1h) • Goodsell 003

Carleton Linguistics is very pleased to invite you all to a careers workshop with Dr. Anna Marie Trester. The workshop will take place Friday, 20 January, 4-5 pm, in Goodsell 003.

Dr. Trester, an interactional sociolinguist whose research and practical interests center around language in the workplace, specializes in supporting linguists as they search for careers that are not immediately and obviously related to linguistics. She blogs about career paths for linguists at http://www.CareerLinguist.com, where you can find many resources for career-oriented linguists, and is the author of the forthcoming book 'Bringing Linguistics to Work'.

This engaging and interactive workshop is designed to get you thinking productively about future careers, and will provide concrete tools for marketing yourself as a linguist in the workplace. To prepare for the workshop, Dr. Trester asks you to work up a short draft answer to the question 'Please tell me about yourself'. During the workshop, you'll refine this answer, as well as give some thought to your skills, interests, and dream jobs. She'll also share parts of her upcoming book.

If you have any questions about this event, please let me know. We hope to see you all there!
