The first step to having an enjoyable mathematics experience at Carleton is to be in a mathematics class that will challenge you without overwhelming you. This placement exam will help us place you in just such a course. To get the best results,

  • To ensure proper placement, do not use books, notes, calculators, the internet, nor ask other people to help you on this exam.
  • Stop working after 75 minutes.
  • Take the exam in a quiet place where you can work uninterrupted. Be sure to bring some blank paper and a pencil or pen for scratch work.
  • Each question is followed by five possible answers. Choose the best answer for each problem; if you indicate more than one answer, that question will NOT be counted.

Please note that your registration in Calculus I is blocked until you complete this placement test.  It can take 24 to 48 hours after the completion of the test for the block to be removed.

Good luck! The members of the math and statistics department are looking forward to seeing you at Carleton.
