Math/Stats Colloquium: Jessica Chapman

Tue, November 17, 2020 • 4:00pm - 5:00pm (1h) • Zoom

Speaker: Jessica Chapman (St. Lawrence University)

Title: The Statistics of Tree Rings with Application to Identifying Driftwood Origin

Abstract: In this talk, you will be introduced to some of the statistical modeling techniques used in the field of dendrochronology (the study of tree rings). Over the years, St. Lawrence University students have been involved in tree ring research from a variety of perspectives, from collecting data on driftwood from Native Alaskan villages to conducting simulation studies comparing the efficacy of the statistical models used to identify the origin of the driftwood. We will explore the findings from these various research projects.

The Zoom link for the talk will be sent to the mast-interest mailing list. Sign up if you are not already on the list.
