Title: How not to solve the Riemann Hypothesis

Abstract: The Riemann Hypothesis (RH) is one of the Clay Institute's Millennium Prize Problems, Hilbert's 8th problem and has been open since 1859.  This conjecture, if solved, would tell us about the distribution of the prime numbers among the integers. Recently, Enrico Bombieri (IAS) and Paul Garrett (UMN) presented progress towards this conjecture at Perspectives on the Riemann Hypothesis in Bristol.  We will present the dramatic tale (involving snail mail, supercomputers and, of course, some modern analysis!) which led to their results. We will then discuss some future directions for this project.
