Faculty/Guest Artist Recital: Matthew McCright & Francesca Anderegg

In their “Contemporary Voices from Latin America” recital program, Francesca Anderegg and Matthew McCright explore the rich offerings of 20th century and contemporary Latin American composers. This program represents a truly global constellation of influences as seen through the perspective of Latin American composers. Works to be performed include: Silvestre Revueltas, Tres Piezas, for violin and piano; Alberto Ginastera, Pampeana No. 1, for violin and piano; Hector Villa-Lobos, Sonata-Fantasy for violin and piano; Reinaldo Moya, Imagined Archipelagos; and tangos by Astor Piazzolla.

Hailed by the New York Times for her “rich tone” and “virtuosic panache,” violinist Francesca Anderegg delivers insightful accounts of contemporary and classical music. Through her inventive programming, active composer collaborations, and precise yet impassioned interpretations, Anderegg has earned renown as a musical explorer of the first order. As a recitalist, Francesca Anderegg has amplified her interest in diverse musical traditions through the creation of concert programs with deep cultural and narrative threads. Anderegg holds degrees from Harvard and Juilliard; her teachers include Robert Mann, Nicholas Mann, Ronald Copes, Naoko Tanaka, Lynn Chang, and Betty-Jean Hagen. She was awarded the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Performing Arts in 2010. Committed to education and outreach as well as performing, Anderegg is currently on the violin faculty at St. Olaf College, and teaches every summer at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Matthew McCright 2016-17American pianist Matthew McCright has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific as piano soloist and chamber musician. He has thrilled audiences and critics alike with imaginative programming that places the greatest piano repertoire alongside the music of today’s most innovative composers. McCright currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, teaches privately in the Twin Cities, and is a member of the piano faculty of Carleton College. He maintains an active performing schedule as one of the most sought after pianists of his generation in contemporary music. He has premiered numerous new pieces, many written for him, and has collaborated with such composers as Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, Augusta Read Thomas, Paul Dresher, Michael Gordon, Mary Ellen Childs, Julia Wolfe, Mark Anthony Turnage, Alvin Lucier, and Judith Lang Zaimont among many others.
