Faculty Recital: Atlantis Quartet

Fri, October 25, 2019 • 7:00pm - 8:30pm (1h 30m) • Kracum Performance Hall

Atlantis QuartetFormed in 2006, Atlantis Quartet is at the forefront of the twin cities modern jazz scene, having toured the Midwest and East Coast. Both the City Pages and Star Tribune have named them Best Twin Cities Jazz Artist (2011, 2012). In 2015, the group was awarded the McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians. Featuring four of Minnesota's most exciting improvisors and composers, saxophonist Brandon Wozniak, guitarist Zacc Harris, bassist Chris Bates, and drummer Pete Hennig, Atlantis Quartet is a band whose music 'defies labels' (MPR).

Zacc Harris is Instructor in Jazz and Blues Guitar at Carleton. Since moving to Minneapolis in 2005, Harris has gained a reputation as one of the area's top guitarists, being named 2017 Twin Cities Best Jazz Artist by the City Pages. He performs in a host of creative projects including Atlantis Quartet, as well as the Zacc Harris Group, American Reverie, and Zacc Harris Trio.

As co-leader of Atlantis Quartet, Harris has released five critically acclaimed albums since 2006, as well as a digital anthology of the band's first decade together. Renowned jazz critic Bill Milkowski wrote for JazzTimes Magazine, 'Twin Cities modern jazz renegades shift nimbly from a punk-jazz aesthetic to ECM-ish sensitivity...startlingly original stuff.'

Harris is also a busy sideman, having performed and recorded with countless artists, including Debbie Duncan, Bruce Henry, Babatunde Lea, Eric Gravatt, Ben Wendel, Michael Janisch, and Nancy Harms. Currently, he plays with JT Bates' Grain Trio, Lars Larson's Mancrush, Cory Healey's Beautiful Sunshine Band, Dean Granros' Tall Tales, and Adam Meckler Quintet. A graduate of Southern Illinois University, he has studied privately with Adam Rogers, Jonathan Kreisberg, Gilad Hekselman, Nir Felder, Miles Okazaki, Liberty Ellman and Fareed Haque.
