William & Wolfgang: Kentridge’s Die Zauberflöte

Tue, October 1, 2019 • 7:00pm - 9:00pm (2h) • Weitz Cinema

William Kentridge brings new life to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte). Acting as director and set designer, Kentridge metaphorically bases his production on the early camera, using light and darkness to reflect the opera’s shifting presentation of good and evil.

The New York Times describes the production as “an exuberant dialogue between drawing and music, a three-dimensional work of art with video projected across and around the human figures onstage.”

Filmed at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, this innovative performance features a world class ensemble under the baton of Roland Böer.
