Choir Concert featuring Chris Koza: Matthew Olson, conductor

Fri, May 18, 2018 • 7:00pm - 8:30pm (1h 30m) • Kracum Performance Hall

The Carleton Choir is a select mixed chorus of Carleton students who present short and extended works from the large bodies of classical, ethnic and cultural repertories, including works for mixed, treble and tenor-bass voices.

This Spring, the choir will perform a program titled Seasons. Student poets and visual artists join together with The Carleton Choir and guest artist, Chris Koza, to present a program exploring literal and metaphorical notions of the four seasons.

Chris KozaChris Koza is a songwriter and performer whose work has reached audiences of all ages all across the world. His original songs have been used on network and cable television shows and feature films as well. As a solo artist and with his bands, Chris has performed alongside and toured with notable national artists such as Ingrid Michaelson, Brandi Carlile, Jayhawks, James Vincent McMorrow, Stephen Kellogg, Andrew Bird, Tift Merritt, and numerous others.

During breaks from touring and studio work, Chris creates music for special occasions, such as weddings, celebrations, barn concerts, holiday parties, and corporate events of all scope and sizes. A student of song craft, Chris enjoys working closely with his clients to identify and learn new material in order to curate the perfect playlist for any event.

As a solo performer, Chris's style can be described as “acoustic” or 'singer-songwriter' and he's been referred to by some as a “Coffeehouse King.” But Chris doesn't dwell in just one style of music - from intimate woodsy ballads to crowd-pleasing high-energy rockers, Chris's catalog of original music and cover songs alike is varied and adventurous. One of his biggest strengths is the ability to quickly learn, adapt, and even create custom material for any occasion.

As a songwriter, Chris has written and released 11 album of original material. Some of Koza's influences and artists he's drawn comparisons to include: Paul Simon, Ryan Adams, Wilco, John Lennon, Rufus Wainwright, and Tom Waits. Chris Koza is an entertaining and dynamic performer who plays solo, as a duo, with his band, and other ensembles at venues and festivals across Minnesota and beyond.

This concert is free, unticketed, and open to the public.
