OCS Pre-Departure Series

The OCS Office is providing a series of six pre-departure workshops covering a wide array of topics to prepare students for study abroad experiences. 2019-20 Carleton and Non-Carleton OCS program participants are strongly encouraged to attend two or more meetings. Refreshments will be provided at all meetings.


Ethical Engagement Abroad

Personal Safety Abroad

Direct Enrollment

Presentation to prepare you for your direct enrollment program – one that includes direct enrollment in courses offered by universities abroad. Housing, course selection tips, teaching styles and grading, as well as engaging in extra-curricular activities and planning an active social life will be discussed by returning students and OCS staff. OCS Field and Independent Research Pre-departure Workshop

A short workshop to prepare you for the field and independent research on your OCS program. OCS Faculty Fellow Professor Susannah Ottaway and student panelists will help you to:

  • Connect your program to the academic life at Carleton
  • Connect your OCS field experiences to a potential comps project
  • Develop your OCS experiences into a fellowship or post-graduate plans
