• El Mundo Maya: Anthropology in Guatemala and Chiapas - A Field Research Seminar

** PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR 2018 **

This program focuses on the indigenous peoples of Guatemala and southern Mexico, with special reference to the Maya, both ancient and modern. Through anthropological coursework and independent ethnographic research, students examine issues of cultural continuity, resource management, and social change in Guatemala and Chiapas, Mexico’s southernmost state. Students learn how the region’s turbulent history, socio-economic inequality, and biocultural diversity provide both challenges and opportunities to the building of modern, democratic, multi-ethnic societies.
