Carleton student, Michelle Marinello, who participated in the CIEE Barcelona Advanced Liberal Arts program this fall, has received a 10/10 (Matrícula de Honor) in one of her University of Barcelona (UB) classes. Alberto del Río Malo, CIEE Resident Director, writes:

This is an extraordinary grade and it is really difficult to receive it: Spanish professors can only can give 1 Matrícula de Honor each because for the Spaniards that means that you don't have to pay the tuition of one course during the next term. If it is difficult for the local students, you can imagine how difficult it could be for a study abroad student."

Studio Art in the South Pacific

This collection contains examples of drawings done on the Studio Art South Pacific program between the years 1996 and 2013.  The program is led by Fred Hagstrom who travels with students to the Cook Islands, New Zealand and Australia every other year.  The drawings are done on site, often in national parks, in sketchbooks that are hand-bound by the artists.

The Critical Language Scholarship Program seeks participants from a variety of fields, backgrounds and career paths, with the goal of building a cadre of Americans who speak critical languages at high levels, in government, business, arts and culture, science and engineering, health and medicine, education, research and other fields.

Please note that CLS is an intensive group-based language program. Students are required to attend all classes, excursions, lectures, and all other scheduled program activities, except in cases of illness or other excused absences. Failure to comply with these policies will result in dismissal from the CLS Program.

The CLS application is due November 15th, 2013 at 5 p.m. Pacific time/8 p.m. Eastern. The application is available here.
