Off-Campus Studies Statistics

Carleton continues to have high levels of participation in off-campus study. During the 2015-16 academic year, 434 students, or 22% of the student body, participated in off-campus studies 456 times for academic credit during the academic year, the December winter break, the spring break, and in the summer.

Of the 491 students in the graduating class of 2016, 346 (70%) individuals studied 404 times off-campus during their four years. They participated in 111 different programs in 60 countries.

In the class of 2016, the following majors had 100% of their students participate in off-campus studies:

  • American Studies
  • Asian Studies
  • French and Francophone Studies
  • Geology
  • Latin American Studies
  • Music
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Studio Art
  • Women's and Gender Studies

In addition, 100% of Special Majors participated in off-campus study programs.

Over 70% of students in these majors studied off-campus:

  • Biology
  • Environmental Studies
  • History
  • Linguistics
  • Political Science (POSC & POSI)
  • Religion
  • Sociology/Anthropology
  • Studio Art
