A Walk to the Lennon Wall

12 November 2012

Thursday, November 8th

En route to the Lennon Wall, we happened to walk through a little park near the Vltava River. There, we found this strange, umbrella-shaped tree that Elizabeth and Bettina hid under for a moment.

From the umbrella tree, we moved closer to the Vltava, where Madeline, Elizabeth, our Czech buddy Zuzana, and Bettina paused to smile for the camera.

Bettina then wondered whether she should go for a swim in the Vltva. Given that November in Prague is less than tropical, though, she decided to save her plunge for a later date.

Leaving the river to continue our search for the Lennon wall, we passed under this grove of trees. Even if we weren’t going the right way, the grove quaint enough that it merited the walk.

Speaking of the right way, we had no idea what it was. To fix that, we decided to consult a reliable resource, the town police. On the one hand, it’s probably best that no one was arrested in the process. On the other hand, though, it would have made for a much more interesting blog post.

Visiting the Police

Heading in the direction the kindly police officer pointed out to us, we soon came across a little bridge where hundreds of couples have put locks on the bars and tossed the keys into the water as a sign of their love.

From there, the Lennon Wall was just down the street and around the corner. For three decades, people have covered this wall with poetry, sayings, symbols, and Beatles lyrics to promote peace and love.

Peace, Bettina

While we were visiting, an older couple had just finished adding their own graffiti to the wall. Because they didn’t have anything else to say, they offered the rest of their can to us, and we decided to express our wholehearted agreement with everything else on the wall by scrawling “I wholeheartedly agree.”

I Agree Wholeheartedly

When we were done, Bettina chose to take home a bit paint as a souvenir by covering the bottom of her shoe.
