12:00 – 1:00 pm

WHO is invited:

  1. anybody interested in the ethics of chicken farming
  2. anybody interested in learning about local chicken farming
  3. anybody interested in eating locally grown food
  4. anybody interested in learning how to process a chicken

Please RSVP to Professor Sarah Jansen (sjansen).  Please state whether you will be attending chicken processing at noon and/or the bonfire chicken dinner at 5:30pm at the local farm.

This event is happening in tandem with her Animal Ethics class, so discussions will center around animal ethics issues. Are the chickens being treated humanely? Is it ethical to slaughter and consume chickens? Is slaughter a painful experience for chickens? How should we relate to these animals? How do we feel about raising them for food?
