Iseminger Philosophy Conference

Aesthetics Conference in honor of Gary Iseminger to be held Saturday, October 20, 2007.

A conference in honor of Gary Iseminger, Stephen R. Lewis, Jr. Professor of Philosophy and Liberal Learning, Emeritus, Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007.

The conference will celebrate Professor Iseminger’s work in aesthetics and his contributions to the life of Carleton College and its philosophy department through talks by three distinguished aestheticians that will focus on various topics that relate to Professor Iseminger’s work. The speakers will be Peter Kivy, Philosophy, Rutgers University, “Shostakovich’s Secret”; Noël Carroll, Philosophy, Temple University, “ ‘Les Culs-de-Sacs’ of Enlightenment Aesthetics”; and Jerrold Levinson, Philosophy, University of Maryland, "Non-Minimalist Conceptions of Aesthetic Experience." These talks will be followed by a reply by Professor Iseminger and a general discussion of the papers by the audience. Everyone is welcome to attend.
