Philosophy senior Nate Elsas will present his Comps project, "Zombie Worlds and Materialism". All are welcome! Below is Nate's abstract.

Abstract: In my Comps, I attempt to defend materialism regarding the mind against zombie conceivability-type arguments. I first examine an early, Cartesian formulation of the zombie argument before rejecting it and considering David Chalmers' modern reconstruction, which relies on a complex two-dimensional semantic theory to back up the crucial premise. I ultimately find his zombie argument to be unsatisfactory and conclude that materialism of the mind is invulnerable to this species of attack.
