Professor Helm will argue that we should accept the Davidsonian/Dennettian account of rationality as the constitutive ideal of the mental but reject their understanding of rationality in favor of a broader account that includes a distinctively emotional rationality; the result is an altered understanding of the mind that has broad implications not just in philosophy of mind but also concerning free will and metaethics, as well as and in psychology (for experimental design and interpretation).
