Revaluation of Power: Ethics, Revolutionary Socialism & Decolonization

Wed, February 12, 2020 • 5:30pm - 6:30pm (1h) • Library Athenaeum

Dr. Alyssa Adamson’s research focuses on modern political philosophy from Rousseau to Hegel and Marx, including critical responses to modern political theory as they have been articulated by feminist, socialist, decolonial, and critical race theorists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. They received their PhD in philosophy from Stony Brook University in 2018 with a dissertation titled “Queer Spirit: From Marxist-Hegelian Humanism to Decolonial Politics,” exploring the philosophical foundations of modern nation state, particularly as theorized by G. W. F. Hegel and Karl Marx and the contradictions of modern political economy with respect to gender, race, and the history of colonialism.

Dr. Adamson’s current research is on the political and economic writings of Rosa Luxemburg, C. L. R. James, and Frantz Fanon and they are teaching philosophy courses at Northeastern Illinois University, Harold Washington College, and Malcolm X College.
