Expansion of the Universe

This is a comprehensive study of the expansion of the universe by observing the Type Ia supernova, which happens when a white dwarf explodes. Following the steps of the 2011 Nobel prizes winners, we present the background in which the discovery was made, describe the motivations and why this is important. Specifically, we show the theoretical fundamentals of how the supernova can indicate the expansion of the universe. Then we elaborate the experimental challenges of actually using type Ia supernova to find out the universe expansion
parameters. In the meanwhile, we discuss the breakthrough made in the experimental work, which makes the detection possible and effcient. Lastly, with the experiment results presented, we compare it with the theoretical models and analyze the data to get an understanding of the universe expansion.
