Text Message Physics

On a daily basis we send personalized messages all over the world. Rarely if ever do we ponder about the science that went into the development of this technology. Through this talk, we will see how a text message is made, processed, and sent. We will dive into the physics behind the two most common displays: Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) and Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). Then, we will introduce capacitive sensing and digital circuitry in the context of generating and processing text messages. Lastly, I will discuss how phone signals are modulated and then radiated by antennas allow text messages to be sent.
