Kenan, Jr., Professor of Psychology, gave talks to the faculties at Lewis & Clark College and Willamette University in Oregon, February 14 and 15, on "How Teaching Quantitative Reasoning Serves a Liberal Arts Curriculum." Lutsky serves as the consultant for the schools' Teagle grant on quantitative reasoning.

The first was titled, "Empirically-Keyed and Factor-Analytic Methods of Personality Test Construction," and the second was titled, "Provoking Panic in the Laboratory: The Use of Respiratory Challenges to Study Why Smoking Promotes Panic Disorder."

Julie Neiworth, professor of psychology and director of neuroscience, recently published an article, "Chasing sounds" in Behavioural Processes. It is available online now, and will soon be out in print. The article is the first publication of her tests retracted findings by another animal cognitive psychologist.

He presented two papers: "The Art and Science of Developing Middle School Students' Interest in Thinking with Numbers," and "To Write Well, Reason Quantitatively; To Reason Quantitatively, Write Well."

Julie Neiworth, Professor of Psychology and Director of Neuroscience, was awarded an NIH AREA (Academic Research Enhancement Award) grant for $344,204.00 for the period July 15, 2012 through July 14, 2015. The title is "revisiting challenged findings to determine social and cognitive abilities in tamarins", and it was funded by the NICHD, under Award # R15HD072751.
Ken Abrams, Assistant Professor of Psychology, presented a poster co-authored by Emily Snyder '11 and Kelley Stevens '11, at the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) annual convention titled "Does Nicotine Withdrawal Promote Panic? Findings From a Carbon Dioxide Rebreathing Challenge."
Neil Lutsky, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Psychology, presented the Society for the Teaching of Psychology Invited Address at the Midwestern Psychological Association meeting in Chicago on May 4. His talk was titled "Psychological Literacy and its Dis-Contents." Lutsky also recently served as an external reviewer for the Department of Psychology at Creighton University.
