Ruby Wu '21 gives Religion comps talk
Title of talk - Healing Suffering with Actionable Love and Compassion in Christianity and Buddhism: A Comparison of Contemporary Thinkers Rita Nakashima Brock and Thich Nhat Hanh’s Theologies
By comparing the approaches of two prominent religious thinkers on actionable love and compassion in Buddhism and Christiany, Ruby argues for such concepts’ prominent role in the practices of healing and suffering. While the traditional texts of Christianity and Buddhism are often interpreted in ways that can encourage passivity towards systems of suffering, Brock and Nhat Hanh’s respective accounts of erotic love and radical compassion challenge this narrative.
