Camisha Russell: Race as a Proxy in American Kinship

Camisha Russell, the Riley Scholar-in-Residence in the Philosophy Department at Colorado College and candidate for Carleton's Africana Studies Assistant Professor position, will present on how notions of race have organized the American concept of kinship, arguing that the historical association of race and kinship in the American imaginary allows race to serve as a proxy for kinship in the contemporary fertility clinic.
