"The real Foundation is the men and women in organizations all over Latin America and the Caribbean.”  William Dyal, IAF president, 1971-1980

Inter-American Foundation 1

Created by the United States Congress to channel development assistance directly to the organized poor, the IAF has funded grassroots solutions in Latin America and the Caribbean for over 40 years. This exhibit culled from their archive of 12,000 photos celebrates a few of the remarkable people the IAF supports, their homes, their workplaces and their changing landscapes. It is also intended to testify to the wisdom of investing in ideas from the grassroots, to the strength of collective efforts to get ahead and to the skill of our photographers in capturing the dreams and dignity of men and women committed to a better future.
