Comps Proposal due by 4:00 PM

Email your comps proposal and an annotated bibliography to your comps adviser by 4:00 PM (CC: Danielle Schultz). Your proposal should be 10 to 12 pages in length, not including the annotated bibliography, and should follow the department’s guidelines. Please note that your comps adviser does not expect your annotated bibliography to be exhaustive of everything you plan to consult in comps. Rather, it is meant to give your advisor a sense of what you have already come across so that they can make additional suggestions or comments.

Remember to refer to the the comps thesis page for more details on the SOAN comps process.

November 11, 2024: Monday, Week 9 of Fall Term

First Draft due by 4:00 PM

Email the first draft of your comps paper to your comps adviser by 4:00 PM (CC: Danielle Schultz). This draft should include an assessment of what you must do to finish your study. The more complete the draft and this assessment is (outline and explanation), the more your adviser can advise! It should also include a bibliography of the works you have read so far and those you intend to read.

Abstract and Second Draft due by 4:00 PM

Email an abstract and complete second draft of your comps paper to your comps adviser by 4:00 PM (CC: Danielle Schultz). This draft should include all of the elements of your final paper in this order:

  • title page
  • abstract (150-200 words)
  • table of contents
  • list of figures
  • acknowledgements
  • body of text
  • appendices
  • references cited

The American Anthropological Association describes an abstract as “an informative summary of a longer work [that] states the central topic at the beginning. It indicates the nature and extent of the data on which it is based; outlines the nature of the problem or issue and delineates the relevant scientific argument. Finally, it shows how the content relates to the existing literature. Where helpful, citations can be used.”
