The Spanish Department at Carleton College invites you to attend a lecture by the prominent Spanish writer Belén Gopegui. The session will be conducted in Spanish with English interpretation. Real time translation to English will be available with the push of a button on Zoom for all sessions. If you want to attend, you need to register using the link. “We live in such dark times that it is inevitable to wonder if it makes sense to keep singing, writing, reading. In this lecture I will argue that precisely the darkness of the times makes it more necessary - although there will be times when it is not more urgent - to understand what is happening to us through fiction, thus deciphering the motives and procedures of barbarism, and find a way to encourage convictions that do not contribute to unnecessary suffering, chaos, and desolation.”
