The Spanish Department at Carleton College invites you to join a reading group in Spanish. Real time translation to English will be available. This event is sponsored by the Humanities Center and The Christopher U. Light Lectureship.

This group will be talking to the writer about her latest book Ella pisó la luna (2020); a feminist reading, a love letter to all anonymous women whose work is barely known. This book is dedicated to the memory of Margarita Durán, Gopegui’s mother, a scientist and the founder of Amnesty International in Spain. She was also a woman who put her career on hold to care for her daughter with cerebral palsy. The book also reflects on her father Luis Ruiz de Gopegui, a physicist from Madrid who worked (during the dictatorship) at NASA’s space monitoring stations in Robledo de Chavela and Fresnedillas de la Oliva.
