John Harris ’85, founding editor of Politico, will moderate the panel. Joining Harris will be Maggie Haberman and Alex Burns from The New York Times, MJ Lee from CNN, and Eugene Daniels from Politico.

John Harris launched his journalism career at the Washington Post two days after graduating from Carleton, working his way from covering local politics all the way to the White House, where he reported on Bill Clinton’s presidency from 1995-2001. He left the Washington Post and founded Politico in 2006.

Maggie Haberman is White House correspondent for The New York Times. A seasoned veteran of political reporting, Haberman covered City Hall for the New York Daily News, the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign and other political races for the New York Post, as well as national affairs as a senior reporter for Politico. She joined The Times in 2015 as a political correspondent for the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

Alex Burns is a national political correspondent for The New York Times, covering elections and political power across the country. He was one of the lead reporters covering Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016, after coming to The Times in 2015 as a political correspondent for the Metro desk. Before joining The Times, Burns was a reporter and editor at Politico, where he covered the 2012 presidential election.

MJ Lee is a correspondent for CNN covering politics, campaigns and national breaking news stories.  She traveled the country extensively covering the 2016 presidential election, focusing her reporting on Donald Trump during the primaries and Hillary Clinton in the general election.  On the campaign trail, Lee produced several deeply reported, large-scale pieces on the mood of American voters.  She is currently covering the 2020 presidential elections.  Before joining CNN, Lee was a finance and politics reporter at Politico.

Eugene Daniels is a video journalist with Politico, currently covering the 2020 presidential campaign. Daniels came to Politico from Newsy, a leading cross-platform national news network focused on delivering news to millennials and Gen X consumers. He previously was a content producer with NBC-affiliate KOAA-TV in Colorado.
