Youssouf Abdel-Jelil has spent two decades with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential. He is currently UNICEF’s Representative in Viet Nam, heading an integrated program that focuses on equity, social protection, basic services and expanded partnerships for Viet Nam’s most disadvantaged children.

Prior to his posting to Viet Nam, he was the UNICEF Representative to Syria, where he led a complex, emergency response for child survival, protection and development during the current humanitarian crisis.  He has also worked in global public health with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a financing institution that is a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by these diseases.

Abdel-Jelil reflects on the diverse experiences he has had throughout his service within UNICEF in his presentation titled “Serving Children Around the World.”
