The annual Argument and Inquiry Seminar Convocation is designed to stimulate student reflection on the nature of liberal arts and a liberal arts approach to learning. What are the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities inherent in a liberal arts education? How will liberal learning benefit graduates and their communities in the future? This year’s speaker is Elizabeth McKinsey, Maxine H. and Winston R. Wallin Professor of American Studies and English. Professor McKinsey’s teaching interests include American literature, art history, and cultural history, with particular focus on landscape, place, and ideas of regional and national identity. She served as Dean of the College from 1989 to 2002. The title of her presentation is “A Case for Liberal Arts Education: Language, Wonder, and Care.”
