Honors Convocation

Fri, May 26, 2017 • 3:00pm - 4:00pm (1h) • Skinner Chapel

The Honors Convocation is held each year on the last Friday of spring term, drawing the campus community together to celebrate the awards and academic accomplishments of our students.  This year’s address will be delivered by Tom Callister from the Carleton Class of 2013.  A physics major, Callister was the recipient of two of the most prestigious awards for students in the sciences: a Goldwater Scholarship during his junior year, and the Churchill Scholarship to complete a MPhil degree at Cambridge, focused on gravitational wave astronomy, following graduation from Carleton. He is now a PhD student in Astronomy at CalTech. As a student at Carleton, Callister performed as a member of Carleton’s Symphony Band, Orchestra and smaller, student-led chamber ensembles, as well as being a member of the competitive ballroom dancing club. He used his expertise in technology to help found Carleton’s Assistive Technology (AzTech) program within the College’s information technology services department with the goal of increasing availability of and support for assistive technologies across campus, including text-to-speech and speech-to-text software.
