Opening Convocation

Carleton's Opening Convocation is the annual all-college assembly celebrating the beginning of the academic year and recognizing academic achievement. Please plan to join students, faculty, and staff as we mark the start of the 2019–20 academic year.

Shortened Class Schedule

Classes will begin on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. with a special schedule of slightly shortened classes for the day to accommodate Opening Convocation at 3:00 p.m. See the Special Class Schedule.

Academic Procession

Opening Convocation will be preceded by our traditional Academic Procession, in which all faculty (including emeriti) are encouraged to participate. The Academic Procession will assemble at 2:45 p.m. in front of Laird Hall. Administrative staff are also welcome to participate. See the Academic Procession Instructions

Opening Convocation Ceremony

Opening Convocation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16 in Skinner Memorial Chapel. See the Ceremony Program

Garden Party at Nutting House

In celebration of the beginning of the academic year and to welcome new faculty and staff members to Carleton College, Steve and Jane Poskanzer cordially invite faculty and staff with their guests to the Nutting House back yard for a reception following the Opening Convocation.  See the Announcement.
