About TED

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a nonprofit organization started 29 years ago as a modest conference on the West Coast. Today, TED is a global community dedicated to “ideas worth spreading” which inspires people from every discipline and culture to seek a deeper understanding of the world. Two annual conferences – the TED Conference in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs) each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh, UK each summer – invite some of the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers to speak for up to 18 minutes. Former speakers include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Bill Gates, and many Nobel Prize winners whose talks have inspired, enlightened, and empowered people worldwide!

Since its inception, TED has grown to include a number of new programs, making “ideas worth spreading” even more accessible. Today, the award-winning TED.com video site provides free access to over 1400 TEDTalks; and as of November 2012, TEDTalks have been viewed more than one billion times! Other media initiatives include the Open Translation Project (producing subtitles and interactive transcripts through international translation volunteers), TED Conversations (offering an online platform for questions and debate) and TED’s newest initiative TED-Ed (providing students and educators with a collection of video lessons). In addition, TED established the TED Prize in 2005, giving exceptional individuals the opportunity to earn an investment of a million dollars toward their ideas. And with the creation of the inspiring TEDx and TEDFellows programs, both individuals and world-changing innovators are encouraged join and enrich the TED community, reinforcing the idea that the success of TED comes from the synthesis of optimistic, passionate, enthusiastic people in many different fields, working together to shape the future.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, live speakers and talks from TED.com combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.

For more info on TEDx events, check out the TEDx program.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
