Author James Lenfestey to Read at First United Church of Christ

November 1, 2000

James Lenfestey, a Minneapolis author of a collection of comedic stories titled "The Urban Coyote: Howlings on Family, Community and the Search for Peace and Quiet," will read from his work at the First United Church of Christ on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The reading is sponsored by the Carleton College Bookstore and is free and open to the public. The book will be available for purchase at the event.

"The Urban Coyote" catalogs births, deaths, graduations, marriages, State Fair experiences, and other trials and tribulations of Lenfestey’s family and the community of Lowry Hill near downtown Minneapolis. The book is based on columns published under the same title in the Hill and Lake Press, a neighborhood newspaper Lenfestey helped found.

Lenfestey has worked as a college literature instructor, director of an alternative school, sales manager for an environmental company, consulting editor for an urban American Indian newspaper, marketing communications consultant to high tech companies, playwright, and editorial writer for the Star Tribune. His varied experiences lend a thoughtful and humorous perspective to his anecdotes included in "The Urban Coyote."

"The Urban Coyote" is Lenfestey’s first book and was published by Nodin Press in Minneapolis.
