Carleton College Jazz Ensembles Present Spring Performance

Carleton College’s Jazz Ensembles will perform their annual Spring concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 in the Carleton College Concert Hall. Carleton’s new Instructor of Saxophone Greg Keel will perform as a guest soloist. This event is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Ensembles perform under the direction of David Singley, who received his B.M. from the Berklee College of Music and his M.M. from Indiana University. He has performed in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera Company, appeared on National Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion and performed in the orchestra pit of numerous Broadway shows including: The Lion King, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Fosse, Hairspray, Sunset Boulevard, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In addition teaching at Carleton, Singley also has a position on the faculty at the McNally-Smith College of Music in St. Paul.

Greg Keel, who began teaching saxophone to students at Carleton this Spring, attended the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, Madison, and Concordia College in St. Paul.  He has over 32 years of experience, teaching saxophone, clarinet, and jazz flute to students of all ages and has performed with the artists Aretha Franklin, The O’Jays, Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis, Fifth Dimension, Frankie Valli, Lou Rawls, Bobby Vinton, and The Temptations. He also co-hosts the annual Twin Cities Saxophone Day, one of the largest woodwind events in the country.  In addition to Carleton College, Greg Keel teaches at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, Hamline University and Century College in St. Paul.
