Carleton College is pleased to present world-renowned cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, along with pianist Nicola Melville, in a multi-media performance of music, electronics and video on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
Deemed by the New York Times as "excellent” and a player who performs with "with unforced simplicity and beauty of tone," Jeffrey Zeigler has been the cellist of the internationally renowned Kronos Quartet for eight seasons. As cellist of one of the most celebrated and influential ensembles of our time, Zeigler has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, has premiered over 200 works and has collaborated with many of the world’s most versatile and innovative composers and performers. In the process, Zeigler has played an integral role in redrawing the boundaries of the string quartet medium.
Legendary musician Lou Reed calls Zeigler, “a talented gifted play with beautiful chops and tone.”
His not-to-be-missed appearance at Carleton will include an eclectic program featuring works by Robert Schumann and Nico Muhly, a world premiere by composer Matthew Fuerst, and multimedia pieces written for Zeigler by Mohammed Fairouz (a piece honoring the victims of Syria) and Glenn Kotche of the band, Wilco. In the year of composer John Zorn’s 60th birthday, Zeigler will also present a work written for him especially by this acclaimed composer.
Carleton professor of music and acclaimed pianist Nicola Melville exclaims, “An amazing array of musical pieces and experiences for the audience! His will be a great show.”
Zeigler has been the recipient of the Avery Fischer Prize, the Polar Music Prize, the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recorded Arts and the Chamber Music America Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award among others.
