Innovative computer programmer and technology company founder Matt Ginsberg will present Carleton College’s weekly convocation address on Friday, Nov. 1 from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel. In his presentation, Ginsberg will examine the role technology plays in our daily lives, the future potential for technology, and how we all can and should adapt to this ever-changing world. As Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of On Time Systems Inc., Ginsberg helped develop computer programs to build United States Navy ships more efficiently. He also helped develop a computer program to find the most fuel-saving routes for United States Air Force noncombat flights, saving between thirty and sixty million dollars for them every year.
Additionally, Ginsberg developed On Time System’s "Green Driver" application, which uses vehicle position information, real-time traffic light information, map data, and predictive models to determine the least-time route for a driver to take to their destination. The app will help drivers save time and fuel by, for example, guiding drivers on the route with the fewest red lights.
With his programming expertise, Ginsberg has also created more than thirty crossword puzzles for The New York Times; with his expertise in artificial intelligence, he created Dr. Fill, a crossword solving computer program. In addition to these accomplishments, Ginsberg authored the world’s first expert-level bridge-playing program.
