The Carleton College Symphony Band will present an evening of music from Russia, China and Japan on Friday, Feb. 21 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Works on the program include music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Chen Yi, Ray Cramer, and Camille Saint-Saens’ tone poem Orient et Occident. This event is free and open to the public.
The Symphony Band is directed by Ronald Rodman, the Dye Family Professor of Music. He earned his Ph.D. in Music Theory from Indiana University. His areas of research are the use of music in electronic media, post-tonal theory in the 20th century, and wind band music history.
Rodman has published numerous articles in professional music journals. He is the author of the book, “Tuning In: American Narrative Television Music” (Oxford University Press, 2010) and also curates the Music In Film Series at Carleton.
