Jeffrey Sundberg '82 presents Economics Department Lamson Lecture, Focused on Conservation Easements

October 16, 2014

Jeffrey Sundberg '82 will present the Carleton College Economics Department Lamson Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in the Gould Library Athenaeum. Sundberg, the James S. Kemper Foundation Professor of Liberal Arts and Business at Lake Forest College in Illinois, will speak about "An Economic and Environmental Analysis of Conservation Easements." This event is free and open to the public.

Conservation easements are a method used to prevent future development on private land, keeping the land in active use while protecting the environmental benefits such land might provide. The amount of land under easement in the United States is growing rapidly, in part because of significant tax incentives available to landowners. However, the design of those tax incentives suggests that there are important inefficiencies in the system. A number of improvements are possible that should result in getting more environmental benefit for less tax expenditure.

Sundberg's areas of specialization include Land Economics, Environmental Economics, Corporate Finance, and the Economics of Higher Education. He earned a BA degree in economics from Carleton College, and an MA and PhD in economics from Stanford University.

This event is sponsored by the Carleton College Department of Economics. For more information, including disability accommodations, call (507) 222-4109. The Gould Library is accessible via Highway 19 in Northfield.
