Carleton Symphony Band celebrates Halloween with “Danse Macabre”

October 24, 2014

The Carleton Symphony Band will celebrate Halloween with a special concert entitled “Danse Macabre” on Friday, Oct. 31 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Concert Hall. An appropriately “eerie” evening of music, the performance will accompany excerpts from the horror film classic, “The Bride of Frankenstein,” along with other short classic horror films, “all guaranteed to amaze and frighten,” says Symphony Band director Ron Rodman. Halloween treats will also be served.

Ronald Rodman is the Dye Family Professor of Music. He earned his PhD in Music Theory from Indiana University, and his areas of research are the use of music in electronic media, post-tonal theory in the 20th century, and wind band music history. Rodman has published numerous articles in professional music journals. He is also the author of the book, “Tuning In: American Narrative Television Music” (Oxford University Press, 2010) and curates the Music In Film Series at Carleton.

This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Department of Music, please call (507) 222-4475 for more information, including disability accommodations. The Concert Hall is located on First Street between Nevada and Winona Streets in Northfield.
