Carleton College student organization Take Back the Tap and Northfield’s Cannon River Watershed Partnership (CRWP) are co-hosting the second annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Sunday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Weitz Center for Creativity Cinema. The nationally-traveling film festival is the culminating event in College’s annual Climate Action Week, and features short films on water and sustainability issues. The eight short environmental documentary films range in length from four to forty minutes, and take audiences from Fiji, Kenya, Colorado, the Arctic, California—and then return to our own backyard here in southern Minnesota. Each beautiful and engaging film speaks in a different way about environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet. Attendees will also see the only public screening of a short film made by St. Olaf College film students (sponsored by Just Food Coop of Northfield). Advance tickets are available online at www.crwp.net and any remaining tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $10 for students, seniors (65+) and members of the CRWP; and $15 for the general public. Discounted CRWP membership will also be offered at the event. (Note: this event is free for Carleton students, faculty and staff with ID). Proceeds will support the work of the Cannon River Watershed Partnership. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started in 2003 by the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), a California watershed advocacy group. This traveling film festival builds a network of grassroots organizations connected by the common goal of using film to inspire activism. More at www.wildandscenicfilmfestival.org. This event is co-sponsored by the Cannon River Watershed Partnership and Take Back the Tap. The Weitz Center for Creativity is located on the Carleton campus in Northfield at the intersection of Third and College Streets.
