January 9, 2017

Carleton invites the public to a faculty/guest artist recital on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall featuring pianist Matthew McCright and violinist Francesca Anderegg. Entiteld “Contemporary Voices from Latin America,” the program will explore the rich offerings of 20th century and contemporary Latin American composers. This event is free and open to the public.

“Contemporary Voices from Latin America” represents a truly global constellation of influences as seen through the perspective of Latin American composers. Works to be performed include: Silvestre Revueltas, Tres Piezas, for violin and piano; Alberto Ginastera, Pampeana No. 1, for violin and piano; Hector Villa-Lobos, Sonata-Fantasy for violin and piano; Reinaldo Moya, Imagined Archipelagos; and tangos by Astor Piazzolla.

Hailed by the New York Times for her “rich tone” and “virtuosic panache,” violinist Francesca Anderegg delivers insightful accounts of contemporary and classical music. Through her inventive programming, active composer collaborations, and precise yet impassioned interpretations, Anderegg has earned renown as a musical explorer of the first order. As a recitalist, Francesca Anderegg has amplified her interest in diverse musical traditions through the creation of concert programs with deep cultural and narrative threads. Anderegg holds degrees from Harvard and Juilliard; her teachers include Robert Mann, Nicholas Mann, Ronald Copes, Naoko Tanaka, Lynn Chang, and Betty-Jean Hagen. She was awarded the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Performing Arts in 2010. Committed to education and outreach as well as performing, Anderegg is currently on the violin faculty at St. Olaf College, and teaches every summer at Interlochen Center for the Arts. www.francescaanderegg.com/
