The Carleton Orchestra, under the direction of Hector Valdivia, will present their annual Fall Concert on Friday, November 9 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Kracum Performance Hall of the Weitz Center for Creativity. This performance is free and open to the public.
The performance repertoire includes 3 pieces: Overture from La Forza del Destino, a 19th century Italian opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi; Suite No. 2 from The Three Cornered Hat, a 1917 composition for ballet by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla; and Symphony No. 4 by classical period composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
Hector Valdivia is the Professor of Music and S. Eugene Bailey Director of the Carleton Orchestra. He received the B.M.A. from the University of Wisconsin and the M.M.A., M.M., and D.M.A. from the Yale School of Music. Valdivia’s research interests include the music of Eugene Ysaye, Luisa Adolpha Le Beau, and Amy Beach. As a violinist, he performs with the Veblen Piano Trio and recently recorded several new works by Phillip Rhodes, Carleton's Composer-in-Residence.
