The Carleton College Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by music professor Lawrence Burnett, will present a concert titled “Color Me This” on Friday, May 19 at 8 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall.

This program explores concepts of some of the dominant colors from the perspectives of physiology, psychology, philosophy and art. A wide range of musical interpretations of color will be presented, from “Oh My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose,” a setting of Robert Burns’s poem by Rene Clausen, to “Mood Indigo” by Duke Ellington. The Chamber Singers, Bella Cantemus (the Carleton women’s chorus), the men’s chorus, and a men’s quartet also will perform

Joining the choir are Carleton seniors Jessamyn Schertz (Greeley, Colo.) and David Peloquin (Lakeville, Minn.) Peloquin, the piano accompanist, will also be featured on a solo piece, Debussy’s “Jardins sous la pluie (Gardens under the rain).” Schertz will accompany the choir with her violin on two pieces.

Lawrence Burnett is a professor of music and choral director at Carleton College. In addition to directing the Carleton College Choir and Chamber Singers, he directs the Pro Musica trio and recently formed a gospel group called the Jubilee Singers, patterned after the famed Fisk Jubilee Singers. Burnett also directs a Northfield community choir.

The Carleton music department is sponsoring the concert. For more information, call the Carleton music department at (507) 646-4347.
